FRANZISKA REINBOTHE, 2021_048, 2021
FRANZISKA REINBOTHE, 2019_062, 2019

Franziska Reinbothe, born in Berlin in 1980, lives and works in Pretzsch and Berlin. As a visual artist, she develops various strategies for creating images, with her central question always being: “What actually happens when…?” In her painting she is particularly interested in what is usually hidden – the back of a picture and its edges. To make these visible, she compresses canvases, exposes stretcher frames or does without them altogether. She stretches, folds, breaks, cuts and sews her pictures after the painting process is finished. Some works protrude far into the room, others have already completely detached themselves from the wall.

Franziska Reinbothe has received several awards and scholarships, including the work scholarship from the Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop, the purchase of works by the Hamburg Art Collections Foundation and the Contemporary Art Collection of the Federal Republic of Germany. She was nominated for the Rostocker Kunsthalle art prize and received the Wilhelm Morgner scholarship in Soest as well as a work scholarship at Plushow Castle, Wismar. Her successes also include a nomination for the LVZ Prize in Leipzig and a work purchase by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony.

In her professional career, Reinbothe worked, among other things, as curatorial director of the Lüneburg Art Association and worked as an artistic assistant for painting and graphics at the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Arts. She has given lectures, workshops and seminars at various institutions, including Burg Giebichenstein in Halle, the Bremen University of the Arts, the Berlin University of Technology and Economics and the Mannheim Free Art Academy. She completed her studies in painting and graphics with Prof. Ingo Meller at the HGB, where she also completed her diploma in painting/fine arts and later her master’s degree.
